My name is Mónica María Ovando Cordón, and I am a graduate of Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, Altiplano Campus. I have had the opportunity to experience constant growth in my academic, professional, and personal life. Since I began my studies in Agroforestry, new doors have opened for me. UVG offered me an excellent academic environment that not only provided me with knowledge but also prepared me for the challenges of the professional field.

After obtaining my degree as an Agroforestry Technician, I was presented with the opportunity to work while continuing my studies. This initial experience opened many doors for me, giving me a real perspective of my profession and the skills needed to succeed in the workforce. In 2020, after completing my coursework, I had to pause my studies due to family reasons and the pandemic, but I never gave up on my desire to continue learning.

In 2023, I resumed my studies and decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Leadership and Business Management at UVG’s Southern Campus. I am now just a step away from completing this program. This process has been challenging but also a time of great learning and personal growth.

Today, I feel very grateful to be part of Universidad del Valle de Guatemala once again, but this time as a staff member. In early 2024, I was offered the position of head of the basic sciences laboratories at the Altiplano Campus. In this role, I am responsible for supporting students at various levels, ensuring they have everything they need for practical learning. My experience as a student and now as a UVG employee has been a clear example of how the university has positively influenced my life, giving me the opportunity to give backa little of what I have received through my work and commitment.
