I began  the Specialized Teachers in Intercultural Bilingual Elementary Education program in 2004 and completed the Bachelor of Education in 2011 thanks to the El Poder de Uno scholarship.I graduated Summa Cum Laude and am currently the Director of the Faculty of Education in the UVG – Altiplano campus. In 2000, I was selected to study at the Regional Normal Schools, who lead the training of teachers at bilingual schools in Guatemala, thanks to the German PEMBI GTZ Project. 

I observed how the headquarters of a former military zone was changed to a higher education center. As a teacher, I have led social movement actions for the benefit of an education system with cultural and linguistic relevance and without exclusions. 

The biggest challenge in my career has been being the father of a family and managing the balance between my family care and professional training commitments.

My career to date has provided me great experience across the educational field, linking practice with life realities. I served as the Director of an intercultural bilingual school in my community for 14 years and successfully completed 25 years of service teaching in a Guatemalan public school.

I held the position of Technical Coordinator of Intercultural Bilingual Education for the Literacy Project in Bilingual and Intercultural Environments of the Altiplano in coordination with the UVG-USAID Leer y Aprender project from 2015-2019. I am currently a partner and member of the Academy of Mayan Languages of the Kaqchikel Linguistic Community.

I have grown professionally since the opening of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala on the Altiplano campus. With UVG scholarships, I have also been able to continue my studies at the university level. Today, I have a Master’s Degree in Innovations for Learning from another university — I continue to grow.

In my family, all six members have at least a university professorship. This is an example of how educational opportunity has benefited all of us, allowing every family member to develop academically and professionally.

My training has also strengthened quality education at the community level, thanks to the coordination of bilingual education processes. New doors have opened for all educationally, from the primary, basic and diversified level.

En 2004, comencé a estudiar el Profesorado Especializado en Educación Primaria Bilingüe Intercultural y finalicé la Licenciatura en Educación, en 2011, gracias a la beca El Poder de Uno. 

Me gradué con el grado Summa Cum Laude y actualmente soy el director de la Facultad de Educación, en la UVG de campus altiplano.

En el año 2000 fui seleccionado por las Escuelas Normales Regionales del País, quienes orientan la formación a docentes en servicio de Escuelas Bilingües del País, gracias al Proyecto PEMBI GTZ alemana.

Observé cómo fue el cambio de la sede de una zona militar a un centro educativo a nivel de educación superior debido a que he sido docente liderando acciones de movimiento social en beneficio de una educación con pertinencia cultural, lingüística y sin exclusiones. El reto más grande en mi carrera fue ser padre de familia y distribuir mis compromisos de atención y formación.

Gracias a esta carrera he logrado una gran experiencia en el campo educativo, vinculando la práctica con la realidad en el fortalecimiento de dirigir y coordinar una dirección por 14 años de una escuela bilingüe intercultural de mi comunidad y de haber realizado satisfactoriamente un servicio de 25 años de docencia en una de las escuelas públicas de mi país.

He desempeñado el puesto de coordinador técnico de educación bilingüe intercultural para el Proyecto de Lectoescritura en Ambientes Bilingües e Interculturales del Altiplano en coordinación con UVG-USAID Leer y Aprender en los años 2015 al 20219. Actualmente soy socio e integrante de la Academia de Lenguas Mayas de la Comunidad Lingüística Kaqchikel.

Profesionalmente he crecido con la apertura de la Universidad del Valle de Guatemala en el campus de altiplano y con las becas con las que cuenta, he podido continuar con mis estudios a nivel universitario. Hoy tengo una Maestría en Innovaciones para el Aprendizaje de otra universidad y esto me ha hecho crecer.

A nivel familiar, los seis integrantes que la conforman tienen —por lo menos— un profesorado universitario. Esto es una muestra de cómo la educación nos ha beneficiado para que todo integrante de mi familia se desarrolle académica y profesionalmente.

En la comunidad, mi formación ha fortalecido una educación de calidad a nivel comunal, gracias a la coordinación de procesos de educación bilingüe en el área. Además, se ha logrado la apertura a nuevas oportunidades en temas de educación desde el nivel primario, básico y diversificado.
